Do we need to supplement vitamins?

Vitamins are important in the body, but they are generally available in the foods that we eat. The problem is that we are not getting the minerals that we need. Minerals are used to make vitamins effective. They are termed coenzymes. Once we have the minerals that we need, we are able to utilize the vitamins that we get from the foods we eat. If you have been “mega-dosing” on vitamins and not getting results, now you know why! Healthy For Life believes in only supplementing nutrients that we can’t get from food and that our bodies can’t make

Are all mineral supplements the same?

All minerals are not the same. For nutrition to reach your cells, protein is often required as the transport mechanism. Proteins “guide” essential nutrients into the cell. For effective use by your body, a mineral must be bonded to a protein. That's why ordinary minerals and even the colloidal and liquid minerals, though highly promoted, are not effective. They are not bonded to proteins, and even worse, the colloid is too big to enter the cell.

Will Healthy For Life react with my medications?

No, Healthy For Life supplements are a food product; they are NOT drugs.

Are Healthy For Life supplements safe for children?

Yes, Healthy For Life supplements can be taken at any age. Liquid forms (except for Simply Minerals) are available, which makes them easier for children to take.

The flax supplement I used to take recommended 1 Tbsp. daily.
Why is Simply Oils only about a teaspoon?

Simply Oils formulation has a properly balanced ratio of omega 3 and omega 6. When supplementing the proper balance, very little is needed when taken daily.

Why does Healthy For Life only recommend three products?
My health food store has hundreds of products to choose from.

There are thousands of health supplements on the market, but very few are necessary for most people. Your body can produce many of the substances it needs when your body gets the basic building blocks it requires. Healthy For Life recommends eating foods and supplements that will provide your body with the basic building blocks it requires to produce whatever nutrients it needs. Your body can produce many of the nutrients found in other supplements. For example, CoQ10 can be made by your body from essential fatty acids (EFAs). Healthy For Life recommends supplementing EFAs as the basic building block, and then your body will produce CoQ10 when it needs it. Our philosophy is to only supplement what we aren’t getting from foods and what the body can’t make on its own.

Why doesn’t Simply Oils contain more ingredients?

Many oil supplements contain dozens of oil derivatives. Many times vitamins and other substances are also added to them. Simply oils is a pure essential oil supplement containing the essential oils our bodies need and can’t make. We don’t add ingredients that we don’t believe are necessary just to make it look like you’re getting more nutrients. We promote supplementing only what you can’t get from food. These extra ingredients are not necessary.

Are fruits and vegetables good for you?

Fruits and vegetables can provide vitamins and minerals our bodies need, but remember that many fruits and vegetable also provide lots of sugar. It doesn't matter if the sugar is from fruit or from candy - it is all the same in the body. One serving of fruit per day is plenty. We don't need multiple helpings every day as we have been told. Try to eat fruits and vegetables with lower sugar content. We can get plenty of vitamins and minerals from other foods, such as meats, cheeses and eggs. It is important to note that there are whole populations of people who live healthy lives on a diet consisting entirely of meat.1

What about carb-loading before physical activity?

Unless "winning the race" is your goal (not fat burning), carb-loading does not make sense. Carb-loading is for elite athletes before a race. For most daily activities and normal athletic activity, proteins are a better, more consistent source of energy. Proteins won’t give you highs and lows like carb-loading. Carbs completely short-circuit fat burning.2 Carb-loading signals insulin production, which prevents the body from burning fat. You might get a quick energy boost, but it will be followed by a energy low. If fat-burning is your goal, carb-loading is the worst thing you can do!

Can we eat too much protein?

The great thing about eating protein, and the natural fats that go with it, is that they are very filling. You will be signaled naturally by your appetite when you get your fill of protein and natural fats, so don't worry about eating too much; it is nearly impossible if you listen to your stomach!

How much protein do we need?

The textbook, Basic Medical Biochemistry, reports that a 150 lb. person requires a full pound of protein each day for body processes.3 You body can recycle about half of the amino acids, which means we need to eat at least ½ pound of dietary protein each day. This should come from real food, not protein shakes or bars. These substitutes use whey protein and other substitutes that are not as useful to the body, They are typically one quarter absorbable, meaning you’re only able to use about 1/4 of what you eat.

Are Healthy For Life supplements safe while pregnant or breast feeding?

Yes, Healthy For Life supplements are food supplements, meaning they are the same as eating real food.
