How Minerals Help You:
• Balances your blood sugar levels More Information About Minerals Unfortunately, EFAs are not the only nutrients missing from our foods. The natural cycle is that animals eat plants, which have minerals, then we eat the animal and obtain the minerals we need. Many of the animals we eat are fed grains not normally part of a wild animal’s diet. The grains are lacking in minerals, due to mineral deficient soils and use of synthetic fertilizers instead of natural ones. For this reason, animals, vegetables, grains, and other plant based foods have become deficient in minerals. The end result is that we may not be getting the minerals we need. Minerals need to be in a very specific bio-available (chelated) form in order for our bodies to use them. As part of digestion in the animal, the mineral combines with a protein, which is how our bodies absorb the mineral. The protein (a charged particle) is attracted to the cells in our bodies and is absorbed through the cell membrane. When the protein is absorbed, it brings the mineral with it into the cell. Minerals in foods must come from protein based foods; our bodies can’t absorb them from plant based foods. There are 17 main minerals that our bodies need. Many people are not getting 8 of these minerals in sufficient quantities. Minerals are coenzymes with vitamins. This means that vitamins and minerals work together. Minerals enable vitamins to work properly in the body. Without the proper balance of minerals, vitamins may not be usable. |
